Oral Hygiene and Therapy
Oral Hygiene
At Gentle Care Dentistry, our oral health therapist is Maviel. She is dual qualified as a hygienist and therapist. Her role within the dental team is largely focused on preventative care, as well as treatment of dental caries (tooth decay) and periodontal disease (gum disease).
Maviel works in conjunction with the dentist to give you dental care that is tailored to your needs. She is trained to provide, for all ages:
-
Tailored oral hygiene instructions
-
Dental x-rays, fluoride treatment, fissure sealants
-
General cleans to remove plaque and calculus build-up, as well as deeper cleans for those with gum disease
What this means for you is that there are now two professionals, a dentist and an oral health therapist, who will look after you at your six-monthly periodic check-up and clean. The cost is the same, but you will experience greater value with an increase in oral health awareness as they spend time with you. This is a great long term strategy to ensure you have good oral health techniques.
Her role with children
Additionally, Maviel’s therapy qualification allows her to provide examinations and treatment for children and adolescents up to 18 years. This includes comprehensive treatment plans, placement of sealants and fillings, as well as extractions of primary (baby) teeth. We understand the importance of creating a safe and positive experience for your children. Maviel is wonderful with kids as she is gentle, patient and explains everything to them in an easy-to-understand way. When she is not with patients, Maviel is visiting local preschools and schools educating children on the importance of oral health, as well as providing tips on how to look after their teeth.
Adults with comprehensive treatment
For those who are over the age of 18, Maviel will perform a comprehensive scale and clean for you, before handing you over to our dentist who will carry out the examination. For anyone who has periodontal disease (also known as gum disease), Maviel can complete a full course of periodontal treatment over multiple appointments in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
