Invisalign

Do you have a special occasion coming up that you would like straight teeth for?

Do you want the confidence of having straight teeth without having braces?

Are you having trouble with cleaning in-between your teeth due to crooked teeth?

Invisalign might be the answer for you!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to braces that uses custom-made, clear, removable aligners that gradually move teeth towards the desired position. Invisalign has proven to be as effective as straightening teeth as traditional braces, and over 4 million people worldwide use Invisalign.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign provides custom-made, clear aligners that move teeth incrementally. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks, and then replaced by the next aligner until the final desired position is achieved. Aligners are worn 22 hours of the day, and are removed when eating or drinking. This helps to ensure good oral hygiene is maintained, and allows you to eat or drink what you want throughout the treatment. Instead of metal brackets and wires that may be uncomfortable, the aligners are nearly invisible and look similar to clear tooth-whitening trays!

Before the treatment, the dentist will show you your own virtual treatment plan so you are able to see how your teeth will look when treatment is complete.

How long will treatment take using Invisalign?

As each case is different, the length of treatment depends on the severity of each individual’s orthodontic issues. Treatment may vary from anywhere between 6 months to 2 years, with an average treatment taking around 12 to 14 months. The Invisalign aligner moves teeth through the appropriate placement of controlled force on the teeth, and ultimately controls the timing of the force application.

What is involved in the Invisalign process?

  1. Ben will take photos, x-rays and dental impressions to help create a treatment plan.

  2. We send these records off to Invisalign and they will create a customised 3D treatment plan just for you.

  3. Once this treatment plan has been approved at your next appointment, the customised aligners will be manufactured and shipped to the clinic.

  4. Your next appointment will involve placing composite attachments to some teeth to help assist wit the aligners. Your custom-made aligners will be given to you (generally 3 to 4 sets at a time) for you to wear everyday and change at home every 1-2 weeks.

  5. Approximately every 6-8 weeks, you will come back in so Ben can monitor the progress of your treatment and receive the next series of aligners.

  6. After you've finished your Invisalign aligner treatment, and the desired position has been achieved, you may receive retainers that will help make sure the new position is maintained.

Are the dentists trained to use Invisalign?

At Gentle Care Dentistry, Dr Benjamin Yang has attended a course to be qualified to use Invisalign and regularly attends seminars and further training to stay up-to-date with new technology.
